Reviews: BriteLites Acting Studio

"Working with Mona caused me to focus my creative energies, and she (Boom) got me over the hump from amateur to professional level."

Dana

"More than being an amazing acting coach, Mona truly has a gift. She has an innate ability to read people which is extremely helpful when coaching. She has been able to strengthen my weaknesses as an actress while having fun doing it! I highly recommend taking her class."

Mark H.

"I met Mona in August of 2005 when I decided to give acting a try. I took her Explorer Class and the Intermediate acting class. By January of 2006, I was asked to sign with the one of the top Agents in Texas. Mona's classes prepared me to be on set as an actor and hit the ground running as a true professional. I have since booked SAG National and regional commercials, print jobs for fortune 500 companies, television shows and feature films getting work with Academy award winning actors and directors. I highly recommend her classes to those who are serious about becoming working actors."

Letty B.

"I can thank Mona for helping me launch my acting career! She knew exactly when it was time for me to perform in her showcase class and get an agent! Mona pushed me in the right direction and because of her classes I got the training and the courage to pursue my dreams! Her classes are challenging and that is what you need to survive in this industry. Her students are prepared and they book work!"

"As cheesy as it sounds, Mona Lee has enabled me to become the best actress I can be. I went into her studio young and unsure of my goals, my opportunities, and myself. I was totally clueless too about the business side of acting having no previous experience other than school productions. Mona quickly discerned my weakness and strengths so that I could focus my passion into something usable. Although she pushed me harder than I have ever been pushed before, she has set me on the path of achieving my dream. I'm lucky to have learned from such a talented woman."

Gwynolyn H.

"If you want to get into the business, take anything of Mona's. All the really good working actors in town study with her. Her students, like Ryan Lee (Super 8) and Nick Krause (The Descendants) book. I now have a top agent, and enjoy audtitioning for really good films and commercials. She's a working actress with great credits, not just a teacher. I'm working on an acting degree because Mona totally inspired me and literally thousands of other actors in Austin. She will inspire you, too."

Jason O.

"I have studied with Mona for a while now and no one has helped me more with my acting career than her. There are many things I value in an acting coach and Mona Lee encompasses all of them. She has not only helped me to hone my craft, specifically in the area of TV and Film, but she has given the confidence I need to succeed as an actor. It's like this -- I am a firm believer that if you want to get healthy and fit, then you need to be talking to someone who knows what they're doing, someone who IS healthy and fit. Why would you take nutritional advice from someone who's out of shape? Mona is a working actor who's been in countless films and television shows like Hope Floats, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Legend of Billie Jean, Dazed and Confused, Miss Congeniality, Friday Night Lights, Drop Dead Diva, and many others. She studied at Julliard under John Houseman and with such talent as Robin Williams, Kevin Kline, and Christine Baranski. Obviously she has the background and knows what she's doing, as well as what it takes to succeed as a professional actor. My advice is to take your cues from someone who's doing it, someone, who when it comes to professional acting, is "healthy and fit." I trust her implicitly and credit her for enabling me to become a more successful actor. Bottom line: If you're serious about working in this business, then you'd better study with Mona."

Randy R.

"Mona's invaluable advice and insights have given me the patience and fortitude to know something will come of my work in her class if I continue. Classes are small enough that everyone gets lots of personal attention. The actors in Mona's classes are very talented and often work in commercials, TV and movies. Her classes helped break down my inhibitions and build the confidence needed to prepare me for a role later this year working with a European director."

Rick R.

"Mona, what can I say? I think I owe my resurgence into acting mostly to you! When I was considering getting back into it, your class was the first one I took. I didn't know I would get an agent out of it, or meet someone like you. Your class was inspiring, and I love how you were supportive of all your students. You are truly amazing, and I wish you all the best!"

Matt C.

"Mona's classes are a must for the inspired! She is the real deal! She has encouraged me to take it to the next level in acting and in life. I will continue to take classes and privates with Mona."

Christina P.

"I've studied with Mona Lee Fultz for almost 4 years now and have seen a tremendous shift in the way I approach a script, the camera and even making that first impression. You have to have a gift to be a great teacher and Mona Lee has definitely been gifted. I've never had an acting coach be so consistent and honest with you. There's no playing nice or being too critical, it's just firm teaching that makes you better. From being in the business awhile now, she knows what they like and what it takes to be good/successful. I trust her opinion more than anything on a head-shot, reel, monologue, etc. I've never seen somebody so in tune with herself and her craft, it's absolutely wonderful to be taught by that type of person. She knows exactly what she is doing and if you're stuck, she knows how to approach it. It's her practice and years of running lines and going on auditions, which she still does to this day, that constantly makes her better therefore her classes great. Mona is must have on your resume, so many people I know through my classes have gone off to do great things and still mention Mona has one of the absolute best teachers in Austin. And I can't help but hands down, agree. If you want to learn the craft and be well-trained, Mona Lee is the teacher for you. Stop hesitating, sign up already!"

Hilwey K.

"Mona's classes are awesome! As a new student to this field, Mona made me feel very comfortable and I quickly found myself excelling and really enjoying my seven weeks in the beginner's class! She is an exceptional acting coach with years of experience working with well known celebrities!!!"

Caleb B.

"Mona is the best! She is a firm, but supportive, coach who is clear and to the point! She's helped me go from zero experience, to feeling very comfortable in front of the camera. She helps me understand the character and where I need to take it - while still letting me feel free to be creative. Classes with Mona are probably the most fun I have all week!"

Niki O.

"Mona's classes are a step up from most. She's not afraid to put you in your place and challenge you to bring yourself to a new level. She's a tough go-getter who is serious about the business. She's an expert and all actors should definitely take advantage of her studio and get into class. Also her bizness of acting books are excellent and have served me quite well over the years. Cheers!"

Adam A.

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams" (Henry David Thoreau). There is truly no one I would rather work with when preparing for a big audition or deconstructing a script than Mona Lee. I feel that Mona has helped me reach the confidence that all aspiring actors need in order to succeed. If you are a beginner or a seasoned actor just looking to keep your tools sharp Mona is who you should talk to."

Natalie K.

"I got invited to train with an LA acting coach for the summer and I just started class yesterday. I did two scenes for him and he asked who I had studied with in Texas and when I mentioned Mona Lee he had nothing but huge praise for her and said that Mona had taught me extremely well. Apparently he liked what he saw and I wanted to thank you, Mona, for equipping me with the right tools to go and take this opportunity head on. I can't wait to see where this takes me! " thanks Mona you're simply one of the best"

Chuck K.

"If you're serious about wanting to become a better actor (or want to become an actor and don't know where to start), BriteLites Studio should be your first step. Mona's instruction, inspiration and guidance not only bring out the best in your performance but her experience in the business helps you make solid, informed choices in regards to career development. Mona has a tough, no nonsense approach but the results are well worth the challenge!"

Chloe H.

Ray W.

"I have attended Mona's classes off and on for over two years. I recently booked a role in a SAG feature and was told that I "owned the audition from the beginning". Clearly, this was due to Mona's instruction, which is not easy! She is exactly what I need and I feel the most supportive coach around. A truly knowledgeable, helpful, and fantastic lady!"

Nataly P.

"Took my first class at BriteLites at age 7 and most recent one with Mona Lee just before moving to LA last year. She is awesome and very challenging! Love you, Mona."

Randall C.

"Thank you Mona, for the journey of self discovery that started at Britelites Acting studio. You found the actor inside of me and brought him to light and in the process taught me more about myself than I had ever known."

Annabel G.

"Mona's talent, experience and true caring for her students is what makes her an exceptional acting teacher. She is very sincere and gives good direction in her critiques. She also works on making her students smart about the biz. I will definitely come back for more."

Rodney O.

"Mona is a great teacher for those wanting to be challenged. I've learn so much in a short amount of time but you have to be teachable. Mona tries to teach all actors coming through her classes what she's learned to prepare them for life on a set. She tries to reach different personalities in different ways to find their ability. It works and is proven. She has a history and a resume of success from not only her own abilities but from those who have studied with her and have forged themselves a career. Everyone willing will learn something fantastic from her. Don't let the reviews of a small few thin-skinned, unteachable people keep you away from what you might learn from Mona Lee. It just may be the missing piece you need to further your dreams of acting.

Matt C.

"Mona's classes are a must for the inspired! She is the real deal! She has encouraged me to take it to the next level in acting and in life. I will continue to take classes and privates with Mona."

Mona's classes inspired and motivated me to explore the different levels existing within a character. She taught me how to add more dimension to my work, and understand the process of working through the scenes. I now haave more confidence in my abilities personally and professionally after studying with Mona. I believe that everyone benefits from taking her class"

"I've worked with some top acting coaches in LA and Mona is right up there with the best of them. I highly recommend her classes."

Randy M.

"I've taken Mona's classes and recommend them for beginning actors and actors with years of experience in front of the camera wanting to hone their skills for the next audition or opportunity."

Kelly P.

"My 13 year old son Lukas just finished his first teen acting camp with Mona and LOVED it! He's begging me to sign him up for the next teen workshop (which I will). Love that he had such a wonderful experience."

Jacob Y.

"Mona is awesome! I just began gaining interest in acting this year and she has continued to challenge me and make me improve my acting skills. The only way we can grow as humans, and actors is if we are pushed out of our comfort zones and Mona does this in an encouraging way that will pay off when you start auditioning and working on real sets. She has kept me inspired and furthered my interest in perfecting my craft and I am very thankful to be in her class."

Sandra S.

"I loved the sub-personalities class. I feel like it was a huge help in showing me new ways to develop better characters. Mona is a really vibrant and caring coach. I'm looking forward to taking her regular film class in the future!"

Olivia V.

"Mona is an intuitive and nurturing teacher. She generously shares her whopping amount of wisdom and insight, and pushes you in the right ways you need for your acting to blossom. I resonated with Mona's teaching style and coaching in many ways: she recognizes that acting is a great craft and essential to humanity's ability to tell and share stories (the reason I'm drawn to it), and she challenges you to tap into that connection. Even in the first class Mona was able to transform my performance with little tips and her suggestions were always revelatory and on point. I took the Explorer Class, and highly recommended it to anyone needing a tune up on their acting skills. After 7 weeks I sorely miss being in Mona's studio on Monday nights. I will definitely sign up for many more classes with Mona, and I can't recommend her highly enough."

Laura M.

"Mona is fabulous! My little Finn loved her and felt comfortable with her from the first moment he met her."

William M.

"Mona has been great with our daughter over the last year, gradually instructing and nurturing her from a complete novice into a fine young actress. She is very honest, which brings out the best in her students. Mona's pupils regularly book roles both locally and nationally. Her Julliard training and decades of experience easily make her the best acting coach in Austin."

Mamie M.

"Mona Lee's training as a graduate of the Julliard in New York is very apparent in her work as an actor and as an acting teacher who has prepared many for rewarding careers. I heard of her excellent reputation and asked her to coach me in my my transition from theater to film roles. Her knowledge gave me the tools I needed and I have since been in nine films. I always think of her and recommend her to my friends and my friend's children, too. Her young teen classes and camps are as wildly successful asher adult classes and private coaching sessions."

Mickey J.

"I first took classes with Mona Lee a few years ago and I went from "scared of the lights, my voice, my own shadow" to feeling confident about my capacity to engage and audience and hold their attention. But more importantly, I learned that I had to humble myself to her direction. Mona is a Julliard grad, coach to the stars, helped make stars, and whining isn't allowed. The classes I took were fun and structured, disciplined and tough, at times, but we didn't lose our humor about it all. Don't go if you want to be coddled. Don't go of your ego is so big that Mona can't get in there and polish your talents. Don't go if you can't discern a deep love she has for us to win and win big! Go when you are ready to shine, learn, and commit. The difference Mona Lee made in my life is incalculable. I grew up too! Get ready to stretch, in the best way possible, and have the time of your life doing it."

C. S.

"I'm a beginning actor and I was amazed how much I learned in her explorer and film class. I'm a waitress and I'm used to giving the old cocktail rub to get a good tip. You know what I mean? You will not get that from her. She doesn't coddle or encourage a lack of work ethic. I read a few of the poor reviews and I thought, yeah these are the ones who didn't do their homework, missed class, and will only ever be actors in their minds. I like being encouraged to work and Mona Lee led me step by step into learning how to act, getting an agent and working. I'm still waiting tables but I'm also booking acting jobs, and now I'm SAG eligible, which is a miracle as far as I'm concerned.

Super A.

"Wow, I can't say enough good things about Mona Lee's coaching of my niece. She helped her get a great agent too. My niece has booked commercials and has been cast in movies. She had been very patient with us since we were new to the business. When my niece gets an audition she always asks me to book a private with Mona. We trust and love Mona. If you have a teen who loves acting and wants to be challenged, take BriteLites camps.

Zeke S.

"As a beginner actor, Mona Lee's Explorer Class was an awesome experience. A friend of mine reminds me from time to time that "those who can, do, those who cannot, teach". Nothing could be further from the truth with Mona Lee as her real world experiences shine through in every lecture and interactions my classmates and I were given, making her even more of a valuable teacher.
I would recommend this class to anyone who is new to the industry, or is looking to brush up on their skills as an actor."

Elizabeth W.

"I started taking classes with Mona 10 years ago. At the time, I had taken several of the other teachers in town, who have a lot to offer, however I really connected to Mona. These are some of the thing I like about Mona:
1. She's extremely intuitive. She knows herself really well and she can spot in others what they need to work on. She can also see their strengths.
2. She's a working actress and is very knowledgable about the business and will share what she knows with you.
3. She went to Julliard and teaches the techniques that she learned in her classes there to help bring out the talents in her students.
4. The environment is safe. Mona offers constructive feedback and doesn't coddle you. The industry doesn't baby you and neither will she.
5. She helps you to find out what's great about you and what you can bring to the table as a performer and storyteller.
Taking Mona's class ten years ago was a game changer in my life. I believe it changed the whole course of my life for the better. Even after all the things I have learned, every time I take her class I learn something new. I love Mona!"

Scott P.

"Mona Lee's Acting for Film class was one of the greatest acting training experiences I've ever had. I've had tears of training but I've been away from acting for a while. The guidance, encouragement, and experience far exceeded the expectations I had.
Additionally, Mona herself has been a helpful resource, inquiring on the progress of the film and offering assistance and guidance when asked. During the class she provided "real world" advice on getting an agent, headshots, and the business side of acting. I found her to be generous with her time and recommend her training to anyone serious about acting. Five Stars...No question!!"

Jessl H.

"We love Mona as a teacher! My kids are happy when they go to Mona's camps. In swimming you move your arms, kicks your feet, blow your bubbles. You do this over and over and you get better with practice.
In acting, you get a script, you read it, then say it out loud, and act it. This is what you do in acting class. One day you begin to notice you are sounding more natural and real. Then you have to keep practicing. Over, and over, and over, learning about different kinds of people so you can play them in a movie or on stage.
This is what my kids love to do. I love to watch them get better and I love it when they get a part in a play or on TV. Thanks Mona Lee!"

James B.

"I have worked with Mona personally for multiple years and her ability to hone in on a student/individual's needs in terms of growth and development is remarkable! I have gone through a few different acting coaches and trainers, but what I gained in experience with Mona has been the edge I've needed to thrive as a performer. I wholeheartedly advise anyone who is in a similar position with any amount of experience to give her a try!"

Nicholas C.

"I'm a rapper/actor/entertainer and I love studying with Mona Lee at Brite Lites Acting Studio. She helped me gained confidence on stage, in front of the camera and microphone. She is very sweet, professional and wonderful with any age group."

Riley R.

"As a teenager, Mona's classes for teens are amazing and very professional. Coming in to her class, I didn't know what to expect but after a week I had already learned so much! We learn cold-reading skills, improv, and on camera techniques. The atmosphere is fun,b ut also serious. Every single class I take with her I learn something new and she has definitely prepared me for professional auditions. I highly recommend this class to everyone, you will not regret a moment of it."

Molly G.

"I love talking classes with Mona! Her skill and experience made her classes some of the best I've ever taken!"

"We were recommended to BriteLites Acting Studio by Ryan Lee's mom. Both Ryan and his sister Lauren have taken numerous 'teen film acting camps' with Mona. HEY! - They are no relation to Mona. Ryan is the star of numerous movies and TV series. He was in JJ Abrams "Super 8", played Melissa McCarthy's son in "This is 40" and "How I Met Your Wife". In addition, we found out that Mona had instructed the two stars of Acadamy Award winning "Boyhood", Ellar Coltrane and Lorelei Linklater. Ellar, too, has taken numerous camps and Lorelei still preps with Mona for movies. (She is the daughter of director, Richard Linklater who also took all of Mona's classes.) In Mona's camps, she also coached, Nick Krause, star of George Clooney's, "The Decendants", "Parenthood", and so many other TV series and movies. Given Mona's track record we decided to enroll our daughter with her as she was disappointed in her high school theater program and wanted to be more challenged. Our daughter loved the scripts given at BriteLItes and working with the camera, improv, and audition skills. She admitted she got what she wanted, in Mona, a teacher who challenged her. Our daughter can be stubborn and can be touchy but she stuck with the program. We had days when she was sad that her performances weren't perfect, as Mona would tweak and tweak, and push and push. Every stone needs a polisher. Wow, how we wanted to march in there and rescue her a few times but she said she loved the program. She trusted Mona even when she gave her a lot of redirection. My wife and I are doctors and don't know much about the arts. We were worried about all the rejection actors get and how hard it is to make it show business. Mona is working with her now to get into a top tier university theater program. Mona has helped teens get into the most prestigious programs, like Juilliard, which Mona is a graduate of. I guess what I really want to say, and haven taken time to formulate my thoughts, is that being in a rigorous program where true art comes forth, wouldn't you want someone who believes in you, pushes you? And, our daughter will have to deal with plenty of "No's" in this business and now has a resilience that we couldn't give her and, if anything, Mona instilled a sense of honor and dignity that my daughter would not have otherwise known existed in her as an artist. Chill out, parents. Sometimes, we are the problem and not the teachers! Yeah, Mona!"

Lindsey M.

"I have taken every single class of Mona's. I cannot say enough about how she took me from knowing nothing about being a working actor to actually becoming a working actor. I recently booked a great commercial spot and during my audition, a body language discussion we had in one of Mona's classes just popped in my head. And I booked the job. From learning how to hold my script properly in auditions where people know that you know what you are doing, to how you walk in the casting room, to thinking on your feet, to being comfortable in front of the camera and playing to the lens, it just truly made huge difference in starting my professional life. The first SAG filmed I booked, which I shot in Los Angeles and was on set with name actors, when I got to set I instantly knew what to expect. I was completely prepared and not nervous because I had been working with her in front of the camera in the numerous film acting classes I took with her. It made my performance natural and easy. She always knew when I wasn't completely present in a performance (when I thought I was actually nailing it) and she made me step it up. And indeed, my performance was so much better. I will underscore what one reviewer said: if you are looking to be coddled, another class would be a better fit. Mona was hard on me many times because she wants her students to work and she wants them to be accountable and respected. She has a great deal of respect for the craft. She also cares deeply about her students. During one exercise in the Intermediate Class, I was pretty shaken because it was simply a very challenging, emotional scene, and the exercise was really hard with very quick direction. She followed up with me after class to make sure I was ok. I appreciated her pushing me because it made me a stronger actor. She has worked many years with many professionals and she has seen it all, so she knows what you better know if you are going to survive in an industry where millions of people want to be an actor. She is a true friend, and I will forever be grateful her pushing me to be the best, solid actor I can be. Acting is a forever process, and I loved that she encouraged us all to keep a journal and a notebook so we can track our journey. I highly recommend her classes."

Cody H.

"I have taken multiple classes with Mona and can't recommend her enough. She has helped me expand my range, make me more confident, and molded me into a better actor. I came into her class knowing nothing, and she made me feel comfortable but continued to push me out of my comfort zone. I highly recommend her classes to anyone of any skill level, beginners to veterans."

Andrew K.

I came to Mona at a critical point in my life. Fresh out of high school, the future and path for my career was uncertain, and I was at my most vulnerable when I first took her Monday night Explorer class in September 2014. After that class, I knew I had found the guidance I was in desperate need of, and she helped me turn my own insecurities and fears into something palpable and useful for my performances. I also took Mona's Sub-Personalities course which was focused on investigating the parts of ourselves we rarely explored. This class was where I had found a much stronger sense of identity as an actor and as a person. The information I received from this class made it easier to identify what I had to offer the industry and what to let go of, what to bring with, and what to improve upon from the inside out. Her Film Acting class was a very practical way to apply what I had learned from the other two classes and how to respond to the camera and how to not let the camera affect the freedom I felt when performing for a live audience. I have re-watched the tapes of my performances in this class, and I can measure my progress clearly. This class confirmed to me that taking these classes was paying off. At my last class with Mona in February 2015, she told me I was ready for the next step on my road to mastery. Thanks to her guidance, she helped me figure out options for my future. One of these options was to find a place to study in New York city, conservatory, university, anywhere where I could get the kind of honest, professional, and creatively-stimulating training that she had given me. She wrote me a letter of recommendation to all of the places that I had applied to, and not long after, I was accepted to my first choice. I am writing this review in New York city, continuing my first year of study in the city. Being in New York is only my second stop on the road to mastery. Mona was my first stop, and I would be nowhere without her. The techniques, exercises, and vast knowledge of the industry and craft have given me a great advantage in this industry. I am a WORKING actor thanks to the foundation Mona helped me build upon. Her methods are practical, artistic, and genuinely inspiring. A great teacher will not let you get away with anything that is beneath you. They will take you far enough out of your comfort zone where you will see where they're taking you, while still making you do the heavy-lifting. They will fight for you, even when you aren't fighting for yourself. Mona fought for me, and I am a better actor, and a better man for it. I cannot thank her enough, and I cannot recommend each of her courses enough. I carry a lot of proud memories of my time in her classes with me, and I will not soon forget them."
